The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has said that persons suffering from\u00a0<\/span>kidney diseases<\/span><\/a>, aged below 18 and those above 60 years will receive all eight\u00a0<\/span>dialysis<\/span><\/a>\u00a0sessions per month for free under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) effective 1 June to Decem\u00adber 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n

Parliament in March approved GHC6.87 billion for the National Health Insurance Authority (<\/span>NHIS<\/span><\/a>) to cover health insurance claims and other activities for the year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This approval included, for the first time, emergency support for needy dialysis patients as part of the 2024 distribution formula.<\/span><\/p>\n

About GHC2 million out of the amount has\u00a0been allocated for the dialysis treatment of\u00a0<\/span>kidney patients<\/span><\/a> in some public health facilities.<\/span><\/p>\n

A statement by<\/span>\u00a0the National Health Insurance Authority said the initiative formed\u00a0part of its 20th anniversary celebration.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs part of NHIA\u2019s 20th anni\u00adversary, the NHIA, through admin\u00adistrative arrangements has allocated an additional GHC 400,000.00, under the corporate social re\u00adsponsibility approved\u00a0<\/span>budget<\/span><\/a> of the scheme to support this initiative,\u201d the statement said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n
\u201cPatients <\/span>aged<\/span>\u00a0under 18 and above 60 years will receive all eight free dialysis sessions per month under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) from June to December 2024.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe cost of dialysis for this treatment category is projected to be GHC144,354 per month and by the end of December 2024, the cumulative cost is estimated to be approximately GHC1.01 million,\u201d it added.<\/span><\/p>\n
