From actors to musicians to athletes, Africans have made their mark on the global stage.<\/p>\n<p>Many of these individuals have been featured on the covers of some of the most prestigious international magazines, showcasing their talent, beauty, and success to the world.<\/p>\n<p>These are just a few of the many talented Africans who have made their mark on the international stage.<\/p>\n<div class=\"google-auto-placed ap_container\">\n<p>As they continue to inspire and empower others, they are sure to grace the covers of many more magazines in the years to come.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here are the top 10 Africans who have graced the covers of international magazines:<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>Kwame Nkrumah<\/h4>\n<p>Some four years before Ghana gained independence in March 1957, Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah on 9 February 1953, became presumably the first Ghanaian to grace the front-page cover of the TIME Magazine.<\/p>\n<div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"stream-item-size\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Kwame Nkrumah\u00a0at 47 years old was the leader of the Convention Peoples Party seeking to bring the country into a new state from British colonial rule.<br \/>\n<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-219881\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.asaaseradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/1101530209_400-1.jpg?resize=400%2C527&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"527\" \/><\/p>\n<p>An image of TIME Magazine\u2019s cover from that year in 1953 has emerged online with Kwame Nkrumah\u00a0captured by Boris Chaliapin who was an artist for the magazine and credited for illustrating more than 400 covers including former US President, Richard Nixon among other notable personalities.<\/p>\n<div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"stream-item-size\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Behind the image of Nkrumah was the illustration of the African map while an inscription, \u2018GOLD COAST\u2019S KWAME NKRUMAH \u2013 In the Dark Continent, dawns early light\u2019 captured beneath.<\/p>\n<p>On 24 February 1966, Kwame Nkrumah\u00a0was deposed in a coup by the National Liberation Council in an operation dubbed \u201cOperation Cold Chop\u201d while he was on visit to Hanoi in Vietnam.<\/p>\n<h4>Nelson Mandela<\/h4>\n<p>At the end of Mandela\u2019s\u00a0twelve-day, eight-city U.S. tour \u2014 during which he declared himself a Yankees fan and danced the toyi-toyi, a traditional South African victory dance \u2014\u00a0this story reflected\u00a0on what the icon means to Americans:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-219882\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.asaaseradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/1101900702_400.webp?resize=260%2C343&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"343\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the many blacks who have begun to call themselves African Americans, he is a flesh-and-blood exemplar of what an African can be\u2026He arrived in the U.S. more as a symbol of courage and hope than as a politician with well-known positions.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"article-heading type--lion\">Lupita Nyong\u2019o<\/h4>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">She may have\u00a0won an Oscar\u00a0for her role as the slave Patsey in Steve McQueen\u2019s\u00a0<em>12 Years a Slave<\/em>\u00a0and recently landed a contract with\u00a0Lanc\u00f4me Paris, but Lupita Nyong\u2019o \u201cnever dreamed\u201d she would be touted as \u201cMost Beautiful\u201d for all the world to see.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_3-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">\u201cIt was exciting and just a major, major compliment,\u201d the 31-year-old says of gracing this year\u2019s cover. Wearing a blue custom Botter jumpsuit, he looks like some kind of Afro-futurist astronaut, ready to fly even higher.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-219884\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.asaaseradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/BB6cover_BurnaBoy_HIGHRES_300x.webp?resize=300%2C390&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"390\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe gives his all. Even as a 37-year-old mom, I found myself playing it on repeat while popping that thang everywhere from the beach to the Winelands during my COVID-redo honeymoon in sunny South Africa earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1nd4gv7 emevuu60\" data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"3\">I soon became fascinated with this new global pop (or \u201cpopiano,\u201d if we\u2019re being technical\u2014more on that later) star from South Africa. And it wasn\u2019t just because of the\u00a0shiny new self-titled debut album\u00a0and\u00a0freshly won Grammy. It was also because she\u2019s sparked nuanced conversations around the world about racial identity simply by being who she is, a proud member of the Coloured community of South Africa (more on that later too). Something that\u2019s even more powerful than a chart-topping track.<\/p>\n<h4>Tiwa Savage<\/h4>\n<p>Tiwa Savage\u2019s electricity went out three times during our video call. \u201cSorry about the power breakup,\u201d she apologises each time. I totally understand as we\u2019re both connecting from West Africa: Savage in Lagos, Nigeria, where she\u2019s been since the pandemic began; me in Accra, Ghana, where I\u2019ve been for the past two months to be with family. Electricity going out is a regular occurrence in major African cities such as ours. Despite the steady interruptions, Savage\u2019s energy never flags.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-219886\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.asaaseradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/AL0521_CoverGlobal.jpg?resize=463%2C650&amp;ssl=1\" sizes=\"(max-width: 463px) 100vw, 463px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.asaaseradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/AL0521_CoverGlobal.jpg?resize=463%2C650&amp;ssl=1 463w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.asaaseradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/AL0521_CoverGlobal.jpg?w=684&amp;ssl=1 684w\" alt=\"\" width=\"463\" height=\"650\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Our meeting is serendipitous as Savage\u2019s music has actually been a sounding guide, a hymnal of sorts, that subconsciously encouraged me to move across the Atlantic, from New York to the motherland. Last year, I deeply connected to her music because of my desire to get back to my roots. I wanted to learn about where my mother came from and see my grandmothers\u2019 childhood homes because that plays a role in who I am becoming.<\/p>\n<p>On this particular afternoon, Savage\u2019s honey-highlighted hair is blown out straight. Her skin, tinted with bronzer, is glowing and she wears a comfy-looking Burberry knit sweater. The international Afrobeats star has traveled the world through her music, performing across continents for a decade, but for the past year, the \u201cDangerous Love\u201d singer has been in her hometown of Lagos with her son, Jamil.
