{"id":2388,"date":"2024-07-26T04:03:21","date_gmt":"2024-07-26T04:03:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghnewsbay.com\/?p=2388"},"modified":"2024-07-26T04:03:21","modified_gmt":"2024-07-26T04:03:21","slug":"former-ppa-boss-denied-access-to-passport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ghnewsbay.com\/?p=2388","title":{"rendered":"Former PPA boss denied access to passport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The high court in Accra has denied the application\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">by<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.asaaseradio.com\/former-ppa-boss-adjenim-boateng-adjei-granted-ghc-5-million-bail-pleads-not-guilty\/\">former chief executive officer<\/a>\u00a0of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA),\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Adjenim Boateng Adjei<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">to release<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0his passport to enable him to travel out of the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This application follows the recent filing of fresh charges by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.asaaseradio.com\/akufo-addo-commissions-120-bed-fomena-hospital\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">OSP<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">) against Boateng Adjei.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In April 2024, Boateng Adjei was charged with eight counts of using public office for profit and indirectly influencing procurement processes to gain an unfair advantage in awarding procurement contracts. He entered a plea of not guilty.<\/span><span id=\"more-221044\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Following his plea, the court granted him bail and ordered the accused to present all relevant passports to the court registry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In court on Wednesday (24 July 2024), prosecutors for the OSP opposed the request\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">for the release of<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> his passports.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">They referenced their affidavit submitted to the court, arguing that Boateng Adjei had not provided sufficient evidence to justify the release of his\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.asaaseradio.com\/these-are-the-worlds-most-powerful-passports-to-have-in-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">passport<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\">\n<div class=\"stream-item-size\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The prosecution cited the case of Sedinam Christine Tamakloe, whose passport was released on medical grounds, leading to her departure from Ghana and failure to return.\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">They contended that the application should be approved only if there\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">are<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0assurances that he\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">will<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> appear for trial.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In her ruling, the judge declared that the application for the release of the passport lacked sufficient merit.
