The vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia<\/a>, has responded to growing criticism over his refusal to scrap the e-levy, betting tax, and other controversial policies that have placed a burden on Ghanaians.<\/p>\n

Speaking during a media engagement in Accra on Sunday, Dr Bawumia defended his stance, arguing that implementing all his proposed tax reforms now would leave him with little to achieve if he were to become President.<\/p>\n

The Vice President\u2019s comments come amid increasing pressure from critics who argue that, as a core member of the current administration, Dr Bawumia has the power to alleviate the financial strain on Ghanaians by reversing the unpopular taxes immediately. The NPP government, under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has faced backlash for introducing these measures, which many believe have worsened the economic situation in the country.<\/h5>\n<\/div>\n

Addressing these concerns, Dr Bawumia acknowledged his involvement in the administration’s policies but maintained that the timing of the reforms is crucial.\u00a0\u201cI must have a manifesto, otherwise if I do everything now if I could, what will I do when I come into office?\u201d<\/em> he remarked, emphasising the importance of having a manifesto that outlines his vision for the country\u2019s future.<\/p>\n
