Speaking at the 13th Biennial\/51st Annual Conference of the Methodist Church of Ghana in Kumasi<\/a>, the President assured Ghanaians of a transparent and peaceful electoral process.<\/p>\nAddressing the gathering at Wesley Cathedral, President Akufo-Addo stated, \u201cThe Akufo-Addo-led NPP Government is clear about its obligation and duty to ensure that the impending elections are conducted in an atmosphere of peace and security, in full transparency and respect for the electoral laws of our country.\u201d<\/p>\n
He stressed that the security agencies are fully prepared to uphold the integrity of the elections, ensuring they reflect the true will of the people, without any form of violence or intimidation.<\/p>\n
The President also criticized those raising fears of electoral malpractice, including some members of the clergy, who have been predicting unrest similar to the post-election violence seen in Kenya. He expressed disappointment in these predictions, confidently stating, \u201cThey will be disappointed. The 2024 elections, like the previous ones we have held in Ghana in the 4th Republic, will be conducted peacefully and in total compliance with the laws of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n
Emphasizing the NPP\u2019s longstanding commitment to democratic principles, President Akufo-Addo declared, \u201cRigging is not part of our DNA. We are eternal democrats; we trust and accept the freely expressed judgment of the people.\u201d He referenced his personal experiences in the 2008 and 2012 elections, where he accepted the results despite losing.<\/p>\n
Looking ahead to the December elections, President Akufo-Addo highlighted the NPP\u2019s strategy, rooted in its governance record over the past eight years. He praised the party\u2019s achievements in areas such as the economy, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and digitization.<\/p>\n
Additionally, he lauded Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP\u2019s presidential candidate, for presenting a compelling vision for Ghana\u2019s future, and challenged the Opposition Leader to debate Bawumia.<\/p>\n
In his concluding remarks, President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed his commitment to a peaceful transition of power, saying, \u201cI came out of a peaceful election, and I will leave in a peaceful election.\u201d<\/p>\n
