The presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mahamudu Bawumia has urged Ghanaians to reject violence and divisive rhetoric ahead of the 7 December elections.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the grand durbar of the 2024 Fetu Afahye selebration on Saturday (7 September) in Cape Coast in the Central Region, Bawumia elections are a cornerstone of\u00a0 the country\u2019s democracy, a time when citizens exercise their right to choose their leaders and shape the future of the nation.<\/p>\n

He urged the youth to cherish their heritage, actively participate in nation-building and take advantage of the opportunities presented through the government\u2019s education policies<\/p>\n

The NPP presidential candidate also urged Ghanaians to engage actively in the electoral process.<\/p>\n

\u201cRemember that elections are not just about choosing leaders; they are about choosing the direction in which we want our country to go. It is your opportunity to advocate for the issues that matter to your education, employment, healthcare, and the environment. Do not allow others to decide your future for you it is in your hands take charge.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMoreover, I implore you to embrace the values of peace, tolerance, and respect during this electoral period. Let us reject violence and divisive rhetoric. Instead, let us engage in constructive dialogue and celebrate our differences as a source of strength,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Bawumia also expressed deep gratitude to the chiefs, the planning committee, and the people of Cape Coast for their efforts in organising the celebration.<\/p>\n

He also praised Cape Coast, known as Ghana\u2019s \u201cCity of Firsts,\u201d for its immense contributions to the nation\u2019s cultural, educational, and political history, as well as for the vibrant Fetu Afahye Festival, which celebrates Fante traditions and unity.<\/p>\n

Bawumia also highlighted this year\u2019s theme, \u201cCelebrating the City of Firsts: Our People, Our Culture,\u201d emphasising the critical role Cape Coast has played in shaping Ghana\u2019s identity.<\/p>\n

For six decades, the festival has fostered cultural expression and unity, while reflecting on the nation\u2019s achievements and challenges.<\/p>\n
