The new WWE Champion Kofi Kingston made history after beating Daniel Bryan on Sunday, April 7 2019 to become a world champion for WrestleMania 35.
Kofi Kingston who has been wrestling for the past 11 years and he became the second African American {following Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson} and first native to hold WWE’s signature title since it started in 1963 is set to return home Ghana after his historic win. He made this declaration on his instagram page.
Posting a video which his mother sent to him from his uncle and the general population in Techiman watching him win the WWE title at WrestleMania, he said that he was touched by the love shown to him and will be heading to Ghana soon.
“My mom sent me this video clip form the small town of Techiman in Ghana. Last Sunday my uncle had a gathering at his house where the townpeople could watch WrestleMania”.
“In seeing this, I am overcome with pride and joy. I’m still blow away by how many lives we touched. This video is reminder of why we do what we do: to lift spirits and inspire others. I am so grateful to be in a position to do so”.
“Last time i was in Ghana was in 1994. I think it might be time to go back and visit..” He captioned together with the video.
Kofi was born in Kumasi on August 14, 1981, to Elizabeth and Kwasi Sarkodie-Mensah. He was christened Kofi Nahaje Sarkodie-Mensah. he moved to United State with his family and eventually settled in the greater Boston. Kofi had a brother, Kwame, and a sister Nana Akua who died in 2015.
Kofi is also a member of the New Day together with Big E and Xavier Woods. He is married to an actress, Kori Campfield and they had two sons Khi and Orion.
